LR1 alkaline battery, also marked as N-size battery, is a mainstream miniature disposable power cell. Widely adopted in compact low-power electronic devices, it gains popularity for stable discharge, long service life and compact structure. This article elaborates on its working principle, core performance indicators and practical selection guidelines, helping users pick suitable batteries for different usage demands.

Following IEC international specifications, LR1 is a cylindrical alkaline battery with standard size of 12.0mm in diameter and 30.2mm in height. Its nominal voltage is 1.5V, consistent with common small battery voltage standards. The rated capacity reaches approximately 350mAh, capable of sustaining steady low-current power output. Compared with traditional R1 carbon batteries, LR1 realizes greatly upgraded energy density and overall durability.

The battery operates based on redox chemical reaction. It takes high-purity manganese dioxide as positive electrode and zinc powder as negative electrode, with potassium hydroxide serving as electrolyte. Inside the fully sealed steel shell, chemical energy is converted into electric energy steadily during discharge process. The sealed structure effectively prevents liquid leakage and external moisture erosion, ensuring safe and long-term application.

It possesses remarkable performance merits. Low self-discharge rate enables a shelf life up to 5 to 7 years under proper storage. It maintains stable power output within conventional temperature range, hardly affected by mild ambient changes. Smooth discharge curve avoids sudden voltage drop, which effectively protects precision circuit components and guarantees consistent device operation.

Reasonable selection shall follow actual application requirements. Prioritize LR1 alkaline batteries rather than carbon types for devices requiring long endurance, such as electronic thermometers, mini remote controls and portable sensors. Match discharge current parameters according to equipment power consumption. For frequently used gadgets, choose products with high capacity and stable quality. For standby occasional-use devices, standard-specification batteries are cost-effective choices.

Basic usage rules also matter to maximize battery performance. Avoid mixing batteries of different models, brands or residual power. Replace exhausted batteries promptly to prevent over-discharge damage. Store batteries in cool dry environment and keep away from high temperature and humid conditions. As non-rechargeable batteries, LR1 cells are forbidden to be charged to eliminate safety risks.

As an essential miniature power supply, LR1 alkaline battery combines reliable internal principle and excellent practical performance. Mastering its characteristics and selection rules helps make proper choices, delivering stable and durable power support for diverse small electronic equipment.
