The 18650 strikes the perfect balance between capacity and heat dissipation. Smaller cells (14500, 16340) lack energy density. Larger cells (26650, 21700) are sometimes overkill. The 18650 fits everywhere:

PTC (Positive Temperature Coefficient) – Current shuts off if internal temperature exceeds ~80°C
CID (Current Interrupt Device) – Disconnects permanently if internal pressure rises too high
Vent – Releases gas safely before explosion
Separator shutdown – Pores close at 130°C to stop ion flow
