In contrast, energy storage lithium batteries focus on long-term energy storage and stable energy release. They are used to store electricity generated from renewable sources or the grid and release it steadily when needed.

2. Performance Characteristics

Power lithium batteries emphasize high discharge rates, fast response, and strong acceleration capability. They can deliver large currents quickly, but their cycle life is usually shorter compared to energy storage batteries.

Energy storage lithium batteries prioritize long cycle life, high safety, and stable performance. They usually operate at lower charge and discharge rates, allowing them to maintain capacity over thousands of cycles.

3. Safety and Battery Chemistry

From a chemistry perspective, power lithium batteries often use ternary lithium (NCM/NCA) materials to achieve higher energy density and power output. However, this also requires stricter thermal management systems.

Energy storage lithium batteries commonly adopt lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO₄) chemistry, which offers better thermal stability, lower risk of thermal runaway, and longer service life, making them ideal for stationary applications.

Power batteries are moving toward higher energy density and faster charging, while energy storage batteries focus on ultra-long cycle life, improved safety, and lower overall system costs.
